JOB TITLE: STROM ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (SOLAR PV)

As a Solar PV Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, installing, and maintaining solar power systems. You will work closely with clients and project teams to ensure high-quality, efficient, and compliant solar solutions that drive our business forward while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
KEY RESULT AREAS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project Planning, Evaluation and Management
- Develop detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, and budget.
- Develop conceptual designs and carry out pre-feasibility studies for new project prospects
- Evaluate potential sites for solar installations, including assessing roof space, land area, and shading analysis.
- Develop detailed system designs, including selecting appropriate solar panels, inverters, and other components. Prepare layout drawings and system specifications.
- Conduct electrical and structural calculations to ensure system efficiency and safety, including energy yield predictions, load calculations, and system sizing.
- As part of multi-disciplinary project teams, prepare various project development documentation including requests for qualification (RfQ), requests for proposals (RfP), power purchase agreements (PPA), operations and maintenance agreements etc.
- Contractor assessment and selection
- Construction supervision, ensuring key project milestones are met and project adjustments are made to reflect actual execution conditions
- Conduct quality checks to ensure that installation works adhere to project plans, commercial requirements, and industry standards.
- Perform site audits to prepare configurations and structures for system designs and integration with other energy solutions.
- Conduct regular safety checks on worksites to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Ensure all project activities comply with local and national regulations.
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure the integrity and performance of the solar PV systems.
- Supervision of the commissioning and acceptance of newly constructed projects or newly installed equipment.
Operations and Maintenance
- Draw up operational and maintenance plans to ensure plant is operated in line with OEM recommendations, corporate objectives, contractual obligations and regulatory requirements
- Record and maintain operational performance records as needed
- Stakeholder Coordination
- Maintain efficient communications with system operators to ensure optimal dispatch of the power plant
- Ensure all statutory and regulatory-mandated communication obligations are met
- Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure all operations during construction and post-commissioning are carried out to the nationally and internationally regulated standards of health of all workers under supervision
- Ensure minimal disruption to the environment and in any case, in line with the company’s obligations under relevant statutes and regulations.
Budget and Resource Management
- Develop and manage project budgets, including cost estimation and financial tracking.
- Optimize resource allocation and ensure efficient use of materials and personnel.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to budget overruns and resource constraints.
- Evaluate costs and risks to ensure solar PV projects remain within governance limits and budget constraints.
Qualification Skills & Experience
Minimum Education:
- Grade 12/O-levels/Secondary School Leaving Certificate with results to enter a University
Professional Qualification Required:
- Degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering with professional registration in the appropriate jurisdiction (COREN or EngRB)

- Handles projects valued up to US$ 50m
Value and Type of Physical assets Controlled:
- Solar design software and associated computer equipment
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Immediate Supervisor’s Job Title:
- Technical Director
- a) Minimum years of experience
5 Years at least 2 of which should be solar PV project management or in a solar PV design or operations environment. Must demonstrate a strong understanding of solar PV technology, design principles, and industry standards.
- b) Public Relations skills:
Ability to foster cross-functional teamwork and good relations with peers, executive management team, and other departments to ensure collective contribution to the achievement of corporate objectives
